ABSTRACT

Instructions Look at the drawing of the house in the picture with all its various floors and sections. In the ‘Rooms of the Lovely’ write the names of people who really add something lovely to your life. You are so glad you know them or have known them (if they are no longer in your life). Children might like to draw in the rooms instead. Then in the ‘Attic of Special Moments’ write a title or a phrase for some of the loveliest moments you have shared with some of these people (build more rooms or an attic extension if you need). On the ‘Ground Floor of Difficulty and Pain’ draw or write the names of people who have made your life particularly difficult. (It is fine if someone’s name appears more than once, say in the ‘Rooms of the Lovely’ and on the ‘Ground Floor’, as they may have brought you both joy and pain.) In the ‘New Hope Building’, draw or write the names of people who are relatively new to your life, but who you hope to get to know better. If no one fits this category, you can draw in here the sort of people you would like to be part of your life, although you have not actually met them yet, apart from perhaps in your imagination (e.g. a new best friend, a new partner, an inspiring colleague or wise advisor). Finally, in the ‘Basement of Banishment’ or in the ‘Dustbin Area’ write the names of people you wish had never entered your life. Alternatively, you can send them off into outer space in the rocket in the picture. Then, when you have done all this, stand back and look at what you have drawn. What have you learnt about the people in your life, both past and present, and how you want to people the next chapter of your life?
