ABSTRACT

The teacher might need to explain to students that the marker color does not matter as much as getting their ideas on paper. While the students often do well on this section of their standardized assessment, Tamara knows they tend to think Statistics and Probability are all about applying formulas to a data set to determine median and/or mean, ranges, and deviations. She also uses her projector and whiteboard to show them a few examples of graffiti that uses images, phrases, and poetry. During this think-pair-share, Tamara inspects the butcher paper carefully to come up themes on her own. Here is what Tamara can interpret based on some of the inscriptions: Given that the majority of students give very broad answers, Tamara knows she needs to especially emphasize the purpose of statistics and real-life applications. She will also save these original graffiti "walls" and have students compare/contrast their first graffiti art to their second.
