ABSTRACT

Work stations integrated into the growing area are often preferred; they are sited either within a greenhouse bay or part bay, across one or more bays, or in the access corridor. An opportunity for efficient handling and good working environments is provided by mobile work stations, designed for use in external areas or alternatively positioned in access corridors close to grafting polytunnels or glasshouse walk-in enclosures. A well-equipped work station centred on the bench, combined with appropriate tools and procedures, allows grafting to take place safely and efficiently. It is important that furniture and equipment within the work station is moveable. In many countries there is a legal requirement for provision of first aid equipment and materials at the work place. A bench is required whether the grafter is seated or standing. It should enable close and easy access to rootstocks, scions, tools and ancillary equipment.
