ABSTRACT

Geoffrey H. Moore has long spearheaded careful and detailed monitoring of business cycle developments and the application of the resultant insights to forecasting future activity. The National Bureau's business cycle chronologies and indicators have proven to be helpful in analyzing diverse economic questions. The National Bureau, moreover, played no small part in the creation of a reliable statistical data base for the United States, one which surpasses that of any other country in the world. Many contributed to this effort, but few more significantly or over a longer period than Geoffrey Moore. Growth cycles are similarly-monitored monthly at Moore's Center for International Business Cycle Research now at Columbia University. At the same time, Moore continues to work on furthering our understanding of both kinds of cycle through his ongoing research. The measures developed and the analyses performed at the Center for International Business Cycle Research are reported on television and radio, and in national magazines and the press.
