ABSTRACT

This chapter conversation involves a discussion between a head ice hockey coach and his assistant coach after the completion of their athletic season, following a loss in the national championship game in double overtime. Given the experience of the mentor (a .711 winning percentage, four gold medal University championships, coach of the year three times, and assistant coach for the women’s Canadian national hockey team in the Turin and Vancouver Olympics), it is not surprising that he pushed the mentee to self-reflect on her career and abilities, while at the same time trying to improve her self-confidence and autonomy.
