ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses how to explore the subject of working on stress and relaxation with clients and to increase confidence in working on stress and tension with clients. It also discusses how a few minutes taken to work on stress can have a significant effect on clients and therapy. Directing clients to attend to their feelings of stress and tension can help them to be with them and move through them. Raising the subject of stress is not something we want to go wading into straight away with a client, to give it a go and try to make clients feel better. A simple guided meditation or visualisation such as The Beach visualisation is in fact a very effective place to begin for stress reduction. The chapter helps us to feel more confident about attempting stress reduction as part of the therapy.
