According to Madonna Gauding in The Meditation Bible (2005), meditation is "simply making a choice to focus our mind on something". Everything we do is a form of meditation – even preparing dinner." "Meditation offers the opportunity for each of us to create what is effectively a sacred space in which to nurture a sense of wellbeing, tap our inner resources and find lasting peace of mind". Through meditation we can switch from doing mode to being mode, from our chattering left hemispheres to our calm and creative right hemispheres. It gives us something to do when there is nothing else to do. Meditation helps to develop peace of mind. The benefits of meditation are many and can be profound. Meditation quietens, slows and calms the mind; it can help us to develop attention, mindfulness, compassion, healthy breathing habits and sense of well-being. Meditation encourages deep relaxation and reduces stress.
