ABSTRACT

This chapter is intended for everyone who is interested in promoting the speech and language development of children aged 3–11 years. Educators, teachers, specialist language teachers, speech & language therapists, parents and childminders will find that the games are fun, encourage imagination and aim to develop a child's whole personality. All of the games are suitable for children experiencing difficulties with either the articulation of speech sounds and sound sequences or with the grammar and production of whole sentences, as well as for children whose language development is delayed. As the games are successfully played, so their self-esteem grows and their speech and language improves. Language is only possible if the brain is able to interpret and integrate effectively the different sensory stimuli. Language development is facilitated when parents interact well with the child, accepting him for who he is, as well as asking questions and showing interest in his play.
