ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on an approach to group facilitation and a way of working in a more therapeutic style with young people; it is not a guide to group facilitation in itself. As stated previously, we assume that facilitators running this group will have experience of group work with young people and therefore some foundation skills. The therapeutic approach to group facilitation is vital for the young people to get the most benefit from these groups. Within this resource, the approach to group facilitation is as important as the activities themselves. The facilitation style attempts to free young people from feeling unable to do things and enable them to achieve the most they can and reach their goals, giving them the skills to deal with difficult situations through the development of self-esteem, identity and emotional regulation.
