ABSTRACT

Talking points are ideas or simple messages that can be gently and informally discussed within the group. They are especially helpful at times when the group might be doing a simple task, e.g. cutting or colouring in identity or self-esteem activities. In the development of this resource, they have been found to be useful to the young people in facilitating their development in a non-threatening and supportive way. The talking points are a guide and not an exhaustive list. They are designed to be adapted in both language and approach to the specific group at that time. Identify the talking points that will be important for the group of young people you are working with in planning for the group (see Chapter 3, ‘Facilitating groups from preparation to evaluation’).
