ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the broadest sense as 'using art', i.e. visual and tactile materials such as paint, finger paints, crayons, felt-tipped pens, pastels, paper and glue, clay and dough, Plasticine, newspapers and magazines, plaster bandage, glitter glue, felt and foam, card, dried leaves and flowers. Many people feel safer with tangible materials that they can sit and organise. These techniques assist people to expresses their feelings and ideas in different materials and to give form to them. Many of these materials can be available at little or no cost, and the more drama group leader can recycle the more they are contributing to a more sustainable society. Some people need to be reassured that they do not have to be 'good at art' to enjoy artistic playing; other people feel more comfortable starting with something very tangible.
