ABSTRACT

Contamination of the environment with inorganic pollutants like toxic metals has become a major environmental problem. The unsafe disposal of industrial wastes is the prime source of introduction of toxic metals into the environment. Unlike organic pollutants, metals are nonbiodegradable and, therefore, persist for a long time in the environment. These are highly toxic in nature and cause serious environmental problems and health hazards in humans, animals, and plants. Therefore, the search for an eco-friendly remediation approach for the cleaning of metal-contaminated sites and safety of human health is the immediate requirement (Abou-Shanab et al. 2006).
