ABSTRACT

The student goes to the school office to request a specific item from the secretary. All students will need to develop a range of strategies to use, appropriate to each communicative situation, following the Hierarchy of Communication Strategies. Module 2 Entering and leaving an office is a prerequisite module for students who are unconfident or who need to take smaller steps because of their learning needs. The skills included in the Communication Skills Checklist for the SmiLE Therapy module are shown in the checklist opposite. This module is for students who are ready to communicate and use a range of strategies to interact successfully in environments that are not deaf-aware or where people are less familiar with interacting with students who are deaf and/or have any communication difficulties. Choose a MOPS who has no signing skills for deaf students so they cannot sign and need to adapt their communication accordingly.
