ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book shows that how lifestyle differences shape the way creative groups use their creative skills and introduce different sets of psychological challenges. It explains some of the reasons behind low creative motivation, investigates the role of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation in sustaining creative drive, and discusses ways to enhance the perception that creative tasks are rewarding. The book looks at what happens during the creative process, what’s behind the elusive aha moment, and ways to minimize the negative impact of feeling blocked. It considers the impact of the environment on an individual’s sense of creative worth. The book addresses the many types of social, personal, and professional relationships in creative people’s lives and the potential difficulties that they imply. It explores potential associations between mental illness and creative traits.
