ABSTRACT

The difficulties children and young people experience in understanding calendar time are often hidden. Students may write the short calendar date in their school books on a daily basis but, when questioned, are unable to tell you what the numbers mean. Many can state the month of their birthday, but have no knowledge of the current month or how the two dates relate to each other. They may not ‘see’ a week, a month or a school term and therefore lack a ‘feeling’ of how time passes.
