ABSTRACT

Consonant recognition and discrimination activities have been described in Chapter 3.

Following on from these discrimination activities, children learn to sort and produce

words according to phonemic contrasts; for example, words beginning with /t/ versus /k/, or words ending in /tS/, /S/, /f/ or /s/. Minimal pairs may be used to help children convey different meaning, as in homophony confrontation (Grunwell & Dive, 1988).
