ABSTRACT

Many people, even though they may appear quietly confident, are affected by worries about what other people think about them. The shyness of some others may be obvious to anyone. Loneliness is a distressing personal experience. It is different from being alone. The techniques and strategies used in the session are practical and commonsense ways of controlling and managing shyness, and dealing with loneliness. Many of the other sessions supplied provide a background of skills needed, such as conversational skills, learning to listen and so on. Shyness will affect different people in different ways and in different situations, so consequently what it means to them will differ. Whether individuals feel embarrassed, humiliated, and ashamed or whatever, the principal reason for the feelings will be that they are concerned about what other people are thinking about them. Ensure that everyone understands by the end of the activity that thoughts lead to feelings, physical reactions and the consequential outcome.
