ABSTRACT

The process can be varied to suit the demands of whatever setting work in – school, adult learning, hospital or day centre. Once the need for an interaction skills group is established, the next step is to prepare a proposal. Whatever setting facilitators work in, facilitators should first establish evidence that an interaction group is needed. Once the need for an interaction skills group is established, the next step is to prepare a proposal. Settings such as schools, colleges and day centres are likely to have set procedures for obtaining any necessary consent from guardians or parents. If everyone displays the same negative behaviour there will be no positive models from whom to learn and learning may be impeded. Tensions and conflict can build up. There may be personality clashes, disputes about the aims of the group and challenges to the group leader. Individuals may be feeling threatened or uncomfortable.
