ABSTRACT

Sometimes, children’s play has nothing to do with conflict or competition and is much more about showing you care about someone else, looking after others and tending to their needs. Typically, such play is characteristic of girls’ play, but boys too can be witnessed taking part in such activity. The first three games outlined here involve players looking after each other and making something pleasurable for someone else to enjoy. For children with autism, these games should definitely make use of their special interests. The following four games require players to copy the actions and expressions of other children and so show an interest in them and what they do. The final games are about players being protective of other players, taking care that another player is not hurt and keeping them safe in the game.
