After people have had a brain injury, they sometimes fi nd that they overreact by laughing or crying uncontrollably in a way that seems out of proportion to the situation. The person’s actual feelings at this time may not match his or her behaviour (eg the person may cry hysterically but only feel moderately sad). Signs of emotionalism include:
