ABSTRACT

Historically, art has played an important role in religion and other spiritual lifestyles and cultures, not only aesthetically or symbolically, but also as a form of communication and interpretation of belief systems and values. It demonstrates the diversity and wonder of human nature, and the importance for humanity to be creative and communicate through art. This is a common ground for all cultures and belief systems. Studying and celebrating art's contribution to religion and culture is helpful to any person interested in art, in order to understand its power and descent through the ages. For some people, spirituality is integrated with religion. However others may not see spirituality as a religion, and some will be atheist or agnostic. Group leaders must be honest if their own knowledge is inadequate. The secret is to validate each person and enjoy the shared experiences and artistic achievements that emanate from different cultures, religions and spiritual beliefs.
