ABSTRACT

Technology has enhanced the materials and tools used by artists, and carries art forward into the twenty-first century. Computers have assisted and enhanced opportunities for people with disabilities to communicate and be more creative. People may fear that computers and digital art will replace traditional art – if not now, then some time in the near future. Looking back over the history of art, and looking around at artists today, see a healthy combination of traditional and modern art, with movements that complement and add fluidity to art, rather than replacing previous eras. It is important for group facilitators to have some idea of what they are asking people to do, to avoid frustration and delay. There are many gadgets on the market now that will enable artists with disabilities to use computers for artwork.
