ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses various methods and their alternatives for using lines and patterns, making designs, and doodling by group members. The group members were invited to choose a drawing tool from the Art Resource Box, and to copy some of the lines and patterns from the samples that appealed to them. They were offered an opportunity to decorate ceramic plates, plant-pots or even wellington boots with acrylic paints. For those with limited manual dexterity, place your hand over their hand, and have fun doodling randomly. Use other methods to make patterns, such as trailing a piece of string, which has been dipped in paint, over the paper. A good way to store ideas and cuttings on patterns and lines is to file them in clear plastic sleeves. These can be obtained in A5 or A4 sizes. Photocopy and enlarge pictures to get a different image of textures and patterns.
