ABSTRACT

There is a growing interest in sex differentiation with regard to educational access, wastage and achievements, and in school-related factors that may produce these differences, such as curriculum, the design and provision of instructional materials, and selection of teaching methods. This chapter documents images of women and girls relative to the images of men and boys as portrayed in three different courses being offered by the School of Distance Studies of the College of Adult and Distance Education. The Inservice Course for Primary School Teachers is being studied by 4,500 teachers in primary schools, none of whom has had any teacher training. The Adult Education Teachers Course is being studied by 3,000 fulltime adult education teachers who are teaching adult literacy classes all over the Republic. The Kenya Certificate of Education Secondary School Course is being studied by 1,200 young people and adults who wish to acquire a secondary school education. The researchers believe that balanced social development is desirable.
