ABSTRACT

College life is a critical transitional phase in the maturation process. The freedom students experience in the college environment provides many opportunities for experimentation pertaining to these dimensions of sexuality. A critical dimension of an individual's sexuality is anatomy and physiology, including the functions of the endocrine system. Marriage is an indicator of the pulse of society. As reflected by divorce statistics, the traditional expected commitment of marriage has eroded in the past decade. The incidence of sexually transmitted diseases such as gonorrhea, herpes, and AIDS has spread to epidemic proportions in our society. Social scientific research pertaining to the various dimensions of sexuality has revealed that a large proportion of individuals experience fears that inhibit them from experiencing a joyful and fulfilling sex life. Furthermore, many sexual problems (i.e., unwanted pregnancy, sexual dissatisfaction, sexually transmitted disease) are often the result of having insufficient knowledge. Accordingly, human sexuality courses are indeed imperative.
