ABSTRACT

The purpose of the Sex Education Coalition, "to offer a forum for the exchange of information and resources in education and human sexuality", has attracted a mutlidisciplinary membership including doctors, nurses, teachers, administrators, social workers, health educators, psychologists, and ministers. The success of the coalition in meeting its stated objectives is demonstrated by the diversity of its membership, the range of programs and services it offers, and by its continued growth and vitality throughout the years. From 1975 to 1977, the Sex Education Coalition functioned informally with no membership fees or by-laws. The major programs offered by the coalition are meetings, the Annual Media Fair, and day-long workshops. A small minority of coalition members work exclusively in the area of human sexuality. The coalition has sought to maintain diversity in its membership and has made deliberate policy decisions to foster this diversity.
