ABSTRACT

Everyone accepts that more needs to be done about the environment and conservation. However, there is greater pollution, litter and waterborne infection than ever. This chapter presents various stories which encourage children to think about the environment and animal life. The stories should provoke projects and investigations about nature. It is also important to think about the calming influences of nature, especially for children who are anxious or 'hyper'. Walks in woods or meadows, adventures on water or a camping weekend in the countryside can work miracles. In the story – 'How Coyote Helped the Karok People Get Fire' – the animals help the humans deprived of fire and the animals have to work together to achieve their outcome.
