ABSTRACT

This chapter provides information on the basic counseling skills of consultation and collaboration, which fall under the indirect services category. The school counselor is uniquely trained and suited for helping various stakeholders plan and implement strategies for student success. Sometimes the consultation or collaboration involves one student and sometimes it involves a group of students identified with a specific need, a class, or even an entire grade level. The Comprehensive School Counseling Program is for all students, and clearly one school counselor or even a team of counselors cannot provide all the services that an entire student body needs. Thus, collaboration and consultation are ways to work smart and to provide services to all students.
