ABSTRACT

The roles of professional school counselors are often misconstrued by administrators, teachers and even parents. One major fallout from a lack of understanding of the appropriate roles of professional school counselors is that they are often assigned many duties that do not fall under the category of being appropriate. The most pressing task of the professional school counselor is to develop, implement, manage, and evaluate the comprehensive school counseling program with the express purpose of meeting the academic, emotional/social, and career needs of all students. This chapter describes in great detail how professional school counselors must advocate for their appropriate roles in order to fulfill this most pressing task.
