ABSTRACT

High-performance organizations developing infrastructure to neutralize anticipated environmental pressures start with strong leadership alignment. A key strategy in leadership alignment for high-performing organizations is to create a close partnership between the chief executive officer/chief operating officer, chief financial officer, and the vice president of Performance Improvement. The most important aspect of rolling out non-labor within any organization is educating the teams about how this is a continuous quality improvement process that will last in perpetuity. Although non-labor can be defined very broadly as an expense reduction strategy, in most organizations it doesn't include initiatives such as new revenue opportunities, revenue cycle optimization, patient access, and length of stay. Access to healthcare is one of the most fundamental aspects of keeping a community healthy and maximizing the utilization of organizational assets. According to the Healthcare Financial Management Association, the revenue cycle process includes all the administrative and clinical functions that contribute to the capture, management, and collection of patient service revenue.
