ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author elaborates on the most important lessons she has learned throughout her career. She describes experiences from both her personal and professional life as a Latina clinician and researcher as well as how these experiences influenced the trajectory of her work. She expands on the opportunities and challenges encountered during her career as a result of being “different.” She also identifies the resources that helped her persevere through the obstacles, such as having a stellar staff with a shared passion for the work, mentors who invested in her profession and wellbeing, and an incredible team of generous collaborators. This chapter brings special attention to how Latinas can use their unique lens to frame problems, their creative solutions to answer research questions, and their experiences with adversity to tackle challenges.
