ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses process-related underpinnings of successful evidence-based programs and will illustrate how regular efforts to foster stakeholder enthusiasm can enhance intervention momentum and competence, stakeholder buy-in, and sustained program support. As the evidence base to support individual, group, and community interventions grows, comparatively little attention is given to HOW and WHY some programs and interventions are successful while others are not and why the same intervention found to be successful on one campus does not work at another. Across model programs, collaboration created a "critical mass" of support that allowed for sharing of resources and demonstrated a strong commitment to the issues. Given the importance of engaging key stakeholders, the following is a brief description of some effective strategies to ensure strong implementation and sustainability of effective efforts through building "human capital." Key stakeholders on a college/university campus include a wide variety of individuals and each category may require a different strategy for engagement.
