ABSTRACT

Challenges have been highlighted in the literature with regard to intervention fidelity at all stages of practice. This type of public health and awareness-promoting effort can indirectly affect intervention fidelity via increased appropriate utilization of services. Additionally, evaluation of intervention fidelity is essential for explanation of outcomes. In truth, promotion, evaluation, and maintenance of intervention fidelity can be a large undertaking, though not an impossible one. Various strategies have been proposed to contribute to intervention fidelity. Strategies that serve to promote fidelity are those that increase the likelihood that prevention and intervention practices will be delivered as intended. These strategies are expected to increase intervention adherence and skill; however, it is impossible to be sure of this without actual assessment of intervention fidelity. Fidelity measurement typically focuses on the actual delivery of the intervention. Intervention fidelity is a vital, yet often elusive, feature of evidence-based prevention and intervention practices.
