ABSTRACT

Problem-focused cognitive-emotive-behavioural coaching (PF-CEBC) is coaching that is focused on helping coachees to deal with their problems. This chapter provides coaches to all backgrounds, including those in training, coaching psychologists and coach supervisors. Having made the point that the coachee may have both a practical problem and an emotional problem about that practical problem, the chapter deals with a framework that guides CEB coaching for practical problems. The framework that has been designed specifically for use in coaching rather than counselling and/psychotherapy. It is known as PRACTICE and was designed by the British coaching psychologist Stephen Palmer. Some coaches like to get the information about their coachee's strengths before they take their coachee through a structured approach to practical problem-solving such as PRACTICE. The brainstorming yields an effective potential solution to the coachee's problem that they would not have thought of otherwise.
