ABSTRACT

Quite apart from the manifold uses of economic intelligence for fighting the war, economic intelligence is of vital importance for the planning of many operations which will follow the defeat of Germany. In the first place there is intelligence for the Far Eastern war, economic disarmament and economic control of Germany, the economic effects of frontier rectification, the rehabilitation of occupied territories, the development of economic sources of supply to allow Europe to recuperate. … I am glad to be able to announce therefore that the Foreign Secretary has decided to create an Economic Intelligence branch in the Foreign Office.
