ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book presents its application to the study of later prehistory. It focuses on four themes that represent different foci for the study of later prehistory, comprising objects, the human body, monuments and landscapes. The book describes how acts of physical transformation draws attention to details of temporality and spatiality, in addition to the actors performing them. It also focuses on a wide range of transformations including those that reflect moments of change in the biographies of objects, people, monuments and landscapes. The book discusses the theoretical frameworks that have emerged from iconoclasm scholarship to the study of later prehistory, and there were two main rationales for doing so. It provides a foundation from which further research might be conducted and applied to other areas of archaeological investigation. Often, the most productive areas of study lie in the integration of different disciplinary approaches.
