ABSTRACT

Neem, Azadirachta indica, is also known as margosa tree or Indian lilac. Neem has been known in India for centuries as a wonder plant, and has been variously described as the "Divine Tree", "Heal All", "Nature's Drugstore", "Village Pharmacy", and "Panacea for all diseases". Neem is nature's systemic purifier, helping to clear toxins and supporting the natural inflammatory response. In ancient India, neem was an integral part of life. With respect to medicines, neem is a key component of many Ayurvedic and Unani preparations. Taken regularly in one form or another, neem stimulates and strengthens the immune system, improves liver function, and removes blood toxins. Neem oil, bark, and leaf extracts exhibited strong immunostimulant activity. Neem bark extract has been shown to cure inflammatory stomatitis in children. Neem seed and leaf extracts are effective against malarial parasites. Infusion of neem leaves mixed with honey is used to treat colic pain.
