ABSTRACT

This chapter draws on the basis of patterns elicited in the study of the shaping of the occupational and educational status of urban youth. One of the most important tasks confronting Soviet society is that of rearing a thoroughly developed and educated younger generation. Youth are the basic source of reinforcement for cadres in the national economy. It is important to know to what degree one can count on this source in various areas of production and in various occupational groups, and which factors determine the distribution of youth. The basic trends of distribution of school graduates immediately upon graduation from school are well known from both statistical data and sample research findings. Sequential analysis of the development of youth over a period of 13 years made it possible to see how the occupational and educational status of boys and girls is determined.
