ABSTRACT

Abstract: This chapter analyzes factors affecting the transportation needs. It compares the effect of potential factors such as transportation infrastructure, transportation cost, and economic activity on the need for road transportation in China and the United States. The results show that, in the analysis of factors affecting the need for road transportation, China and United States behaved similarly in the following way: economic activity had the biggest direct effect, followed by transportation infrastructure, and transportation cost had the smallest direct effect. The chapter discusses the asymmetrical effects of these prices on the passenger and commercial demand of each country. It uses aviation and road as examples and analyzes China's fuel consumption in air transportation and energy consumption in road transportation. The chapter mainly used Bayesian statistics and decision theory and structural model, macroeconomics model and econometric model theory to conduct a complete and detailed analysis of the current and future state of China's transportation energy consumption.
