ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book traces the history of the Kwid project, from its genesis to its current commercial deployment in the Indian market. It is built in the form of a narrative. The book focuses on this emblematic case from three perspectives they are characterizing the very nature of such frugal breakthrough innovation, what one will call fractal innovation, and the design process that could develop it, Analyzing how such low-end strategies could emerge and deploy in large established firms and Characterizing the implementation of such reverse innovations within the global innovation footprint of multinational groups. It based on research carried out throughout the Kwid project. This enabled us to follow the progress of operations, discover along with stakeholders the unexpected events they had to manage, and analyze the gap between ex-ante projections and expost realities.
