ABSTRACT

This chapter explores several resources to assist clients with employment and income support. It examines the Americans with Disabilities Act provisions related to employment, explores accommodations as well as the Ticket to Work and Work Incentives Act. One of the major thrusts of the 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act addresses employment. Temporary Assistance to Needy Families collaborates with Vocational Rehabilitation Administration services to meet the needs of clients and to comply with the legal requirements of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The Job Accommodation Network is also a personal information network and a consulting resource for people with disabilities. Supported employment provides opportunities for people with severe disabilities to be employed in the public or private nonprofit sectors. The chapter looks at preparation for employment in terms of both social work interventions and vocational training and rehabilitation resources.
