ABSTRACT
"Internal auditors must possess the knowledge, skills and other competencies needed to perform their individual responsibilities". Multiple certifications are available and often pursued by internal auditors. They are offered by different organizations dedicated to providing skills internal auditors need to perform their duties. Having at least one certification is becoming increasingly common among internal auditors and is also highly expected for job qualification and promotion. There are many options for internal auditors to choose from. It depends on the industry and what specialty is best aligned with the auditors' career ambitions. Organizations are increasingly paying for test preparatory materials, registration and provide paid time off to sit for certification exams. Internal auditors should consider pursuing certifications as the cost is typically borne fully by their employers, and the benefits are in the form of monetary and career advancement.
