ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the interactive lecture in which acquiring the discipline to effectively use these strategies requires commitment, time and practice, but what helped was the realization that interactive lecture is very good for students. Square Mode begins when two pairs rejoin to form a team of four and a consensus response is determined and written on an "erase and wipe" board. The chapter also discusses how to keep students engaged during lectures and presentations, and to facilitate group work by organizing students into teams based on academic skills and personal traits. It is necessary to help students to understand the lecture using Think/Pair/Square/Share. This is a strategy that is student friendly, providing respect, protection and safety. The teacher also benefits from the increased opportunity to observe, analyze and make decisions about the learning environment. Student thought needs to be valued and student response heard. One way to do this efficiently is 'Circle of Knowledge'.
