ABSTRACT

This chapter presents idea of Carolina pairs to the troubled class in which the students enthusiastically expressed their approval, saying that finally they would receive tangible rewards in exchange for their excellent behavior. Students love teams with their team names, team building and team identity. The camaraderie and the sense of belonging are vital for students' well-being and are tremendous tools for effective learning. When using Carolina pairs and teams either 'Think-Pair-Share or Think-Pair-Square-Share' should be used in the teaching process, resulting in the necessary interaction for effective cooperative learning. Think-Pair-Square-Share serves as a vehicle for positive interaction and the bonus grade points provide the incentive. The user of Carolina Pairs/Teams will make the necessary changes, resulting in many benefits for both students and teachers. Students recognize the fairness of computing improvement points, eliminating the possibility of a "loaded" or weighted team that would never lose.
