ABSTRACT

Emergence is the practice of channeling our energy in ways that enable us to integrate new ideas for equity. Sometimes, the best way of channeling energy is to move into inaction, stillness, deliberation and inquiry. Often times, people do not stop and make room for questioning that helps us get past the surface to uncover normative shared realities that may not serve our primary purpose of equity, which implies the full integration of new ideas that come from diverse perspectives. Channeling energy with equity in mind is often removing ourselves from the center of action. This disrupts the power structure by allowing all participants to construct knowledge and meaning. The willingness to reposition ourselves outside the center of all things redistributes power and breaks down notions of ethnocentrism in ways that ensures that the vision and driver of action lies within the people themselves.
