ABSTRACT

"Values" is another of those terms that are critical to leadership development yet difficult to define in the English language. Whereas some would say they are "important and lasting beliefs or ideals shared by the members of a culture", others suggest that in decision-making we should keep values and beliefs very separate. Beliefs are non-rational and without proof. It is the acceptance of something through faith or trust or just plain confidence. They may be based on religion but can also be innate or nurtured, such as believing individuals have a responsibility towards future generations or to do good is reward in its own right. Forgiveness is another valuable virtue of the Transpersonal Leader, which can bring great rewards in future performance but needs to be handled carefully. Drive, power and energy can be grouped together in this context. These values all provide the raw fuel to enable us to achieve.
