ABSTRACT

The Latin American countries make up an important part of the Third World. In the struggle against imperialism, colonialism and hegemonism, these countries and their peoples have emerged full of militancy. The Panamanian people's victory in recovering sovereignty over the Canal Zone is also a victory for Latin American solidarity. The Latin American countries took the lead in the struggle to safeguard maritime rights. While accelerating the pace of integration on their continent, the Latin American countries have come to realize that the struggle to establish a new international economic order is not only the affair of Latin America, but the cause of the entire Third World. During the past year, the Latin American countries have by various means strengthened mutual support and expanded trade and cooperation with other Third World countries, thus promoting the development of the Third World's strength in the struggle against imperialism, colonialism and hegemonism.
