ABSTRACT

Pinggu Xian is situated in the southern foothills of the Yan Mountains. Under the leadership of the Party, and following Chairman Mao Zedong's proletarian revolutionary line, the broad masses of poor and lower-middle peasants of Pinggu Xian, with stout hearts and high ambitions, resolved to make a thorough change in the poor, backward appearance of the Xian. They built a large number of water projects, one after another, linking reservoirs, canals, mechanized wells, and water-pumping stations so that the irrigated area reached 357,000 mou, or 77.5 percent of the Xian's total cultivated area. The knowledge of the broad masses of Pinggu Xian concerning the importance of strengthening the management of mechanized wells went through a process of practice, knowledge, more practice, and more knowledge In developing its well irrigation work, Pinggu Xian engaged in overall planning so as to strengthen its unified leadership.
