ABSTRACT

One of the necessary aspects of research in the sociology of labor is an analysis of workers' satisfaction with the nature, content, and organization of their work, and finally, the study of the variety of factors influencing job satisfaction. In the domain of creative work, especially in science, a positive association has been found between work satisfaction and high productivity. An association between the level of job satisfaction and discipline on the job is clear-cut, as has been pointed out by Soviet investigators as well as by those studying the problem in capitalist enterprises. In its most general form satisfaction is a psychological condition that occurs as the result of the fulfillment of some need dominant in the given relationship or social situation. The sequence of dominant premises should be taken into account in making a comparative analysis of empirical data derived from a study of the influence of work satisfaction on the actual behavior of the individual in production.
