ABSTRACT

Chapter 7 argues that effective monitoring and evaluation is central to the success of any sport development programme. In order to be effective, evaluation and monitoring should be based on accurate data gathered by a sport’s governing body rather than generic national surveys and is most productive when utilised as a means of gaining feedback from and for stakeholders rather than a compliance exercise. The chapter outlines the monitoring system used in New Zealand Cricket’s national development programme and how it was complemented by a ‘learning culture’ which identified best-practice solutions.
